Joyce Hathorn Kendricks (Former Teacher at AHS)

Mrs. Joyce Hathorn Kendricks, 75, died on Sunday, November 4, 2012 at her home in Oxford, MS. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. in Waller Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Allen officiating. The graveside service will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery in Oxford, MS. Visitation will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Waller Funeral Home from 11:00 A.M. until service time at 1:00 P.M.

Mrs. Kendricks was a loving mother and wife. Born in Oxford, MS on July 31, 1937, to the late N.C. Hathorn and Hazel Miles Hathorn - who were public school teachers in several North Mississippi schools the latest of which was Durant, MS. Her father also served several terms as superintendent of the Holmes County School District. Joyce graduated from Durant High School in 1955 and attended the University of Mississippi before transferring to Delta State University where she received a teaching degree in Business Education. She taught business classes to high school students in Ruleville and Coahoma County high schools. After retiring from teaching in 1996, she moved from Clarksdale to Oxford. She became a member of the First Baptist Church of Oxford after a long membership in Oakhurst Baptist Church of Clarksdale.

She is survived by her husband, Sam G. Kendricks (also a retired public school teacher) of Oxford, MS; a daughter, Angel Kendricks of Oxford, MS; two sons, Samuel Barr Kendricks and his wife, Susan of Gulfport, MS and Scott K. Kendricks and his wife, Marni of Oxford, MS; and seven grandchildren.
